Wimberley lost a dear friend recently.
Jay McDonald, incredible father,
wonderful husband and caring friend to many, many folks in and around Wimberley and beyond, passed away on October 10th, 2009. Jay’s positive and caring impact on everyone he came into contact with left a huge “hole” in the heart of Wimberley and all those who knew him. His deep faith was constantly modeled in his concern for youth and the vast amount of time he spent dedicated to mentoring and helping develop character in literally hundreds of the youth in Wimberley. Jay always had an uplifting smile, hugs and encouraging words for everyone he came in contact with.
A Memorial Scholarship Fund is being established in his name by a group of Jay’s friends, or simply - “Friends of Jay”. We invite you to be a part “Friends of Jay” so that Jay and his memory can continue helping youth in our community. Jay spent many hours in our schools sharing of himself with our youth. It is only fitting that, through the Jay McDonald Memorial Scholarship Fund, he can continue to have a positive impact for years to come on the kids he loved and gave so much to during his lifetime.
The Jay McDonald Memorial Scholarship Fund
The Jay McDonald Memorial Scholarship Fund – The “Jay Fund” - will be administered through the Wimberley Education Foundation, a 501 (c) (3) tax exempt philanthropic organization. The “Jay Fund”, has been be set up with the goal of raising at least $25,000 to create an endowment fund - through a single, capital contributions campaign. This fund will then be able to endow at a minimum - on an annual, perpetual basis - two $500 scholarships to be awarded annually to seniors at Wimberley High School. Jay spent a lot of time in the WISD schools where his 5 children were enrolled, but especially in the high school where he spent his time as a caring friend and mentor.
